Therapy for Adults

Upper Valley psychotherapy for adults
Often we come into the therapy relationship in pain, confused, and overwhelmed. I strive to create a safe, supportive environment that focuses on easing the pain while fostering greater insight and self awareness. I work collaboratively with clients to help clarify what is important and valued in their lives and use this individual map to create change. I introduce concrete tools to help clients focus on these valued elements in an intentional way. This often serves as a path out of a disorienting haze. My goal is to support clients in building a life that feels engaging, rewarding, and meaningful. This way of working often brings feelings of hope, joy, and increased satisfaction.

In my practice I work with adults who have experienced a significant loss or trauma, and who struggle with depression with a focus on male depression and postpartum depression. I also provide parent consultations to support families.

Adults coming to my practice want to work on a range of issues including:

  • Anxiety
  • Stress management
  • Depression
  • Postpartum depression
  • Performance anxiety
  • Writing anxiety
  • Trauma
  • Grief and loss
  • Parent consultation

I tailor my approach to each client’s individual needs. Having training in both in both cognitive behavior therapyCognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a technique that can be used to help people better understand their thoughts and feelings that lead to potentially problematic behaviors. (CBT, skills based) and psychodynamic therapyPsychodynamic therapy focuses on the psychological roots of emotional suffering. Its hallmarks are self-reflection and self-examination, and the use of the relationship between therapist and patient as a window into problematic relationship patterns in the patient’s life. Its goal is not only to alleviate the most obvious symptoms but to help people lead healthier lives. (insight oriented) I am able either to focus exclusively in one therapy or blend the two as needed.

I also offer therapy for young adults and older adolescents.
